Non-diegetic sound

We have been working on the non-diegetic sound for our film opening. We planned out that tension would build up until our main character collapses here after the music fades out.
Above you can see the program we used to create most of the non-diegetic sound.

Also we recorded a female and male talking in a reporters voice to lay over the start of the opening. We got some copyright free sound for American voices, this would show how far the disease has spread.
Props

We had to get together a list of things to use for props, including a baseball bat. This was so that our film opening could be realistic and keep to the script.
Feedback

My class and I arranged a feedback lesson where we watched each others film openings and gave constructive criticisms and we said what was good about it.

When my group got our feedback back, we found that sound was a common thing mentioned. This was because we hadn't out our sound in. Other than this the feedback was good this was very promising for us.

Editing

This is a time-lapse of me editing my film opening. I am using final cut pro as I feel it offers a wider range of things to do. Editing the colour of clips is key to my film opening as it makes it fitting to the genre of it. The sound editing is also great on final cut pro and let me add multiple layers to any part of the clip, fade it in or out, lower the volume or increase it and also I could split the sound in different places and crop to allow getting the best sound that I wanted.

Fight scene choreography

My film opening consists of a fight scene, this had to be thought out thoroughly. One lesson my group and I set up an area where we could choreograph the fight.

This went well and meant that we could tell our actors exactly what to do.

The day of filming
On the 10th of January my media group and I went to tunbridge wells to our chosen film opening filming location.

We had prepared a filming schedule which meant we would be done with filming main character only bits by lunch time to allow the extras to show up after. We left enough time to do the make-up on everyone.

There was only specific costumes for the three main characters chosen by us. We told the extras to come in dark clothes which would fit our genre.

We had preplanned all of diegetic sound that we wanted to include to enable us to get perfect sound.

Our piece was filmed on two iPhone 6's this was because we felt that these had the best camera quality and were easily transported. The reason we had two was to enable us to get different angles of the same scene and choose which one was best in each scenario.

As you have seen in my earlier blog post showing the location it wasn't very apocalypse like. Upon arrival we moved things around to make it more fitting to our film opening. Below is what we made the room look like for filming.

Health and safety whilst filming
I produced a health and safety assessment. This allowed me to see what could go wrong and how I need to be careful in certain parts of filming.
Below is my consent form this was signed by each actor in my film opening. This meant that I was able to film them and also share the footage with others.

Film ratings

There are 5 main rating categories U, PG, 12A, 15 and 18.
We have decided on a 15 rating. The reasons for this is that at 15 there can be strong threat and horror as long as there is no sustained focus on sadistic or sexualised threat.

Can violence be used?

Yes, at 15 violence may be strong. It should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury, however, and the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.
Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable.

Our film fits into this category well so we have decided to use this one.
